Vata
Vata doshas are characterized by the mobile nature of Air + Ether / Space energy.
When in balance vata individuals are imaginative, intuituve, spontaneous, and full of vibrant enthusiasm allowing them to excell in all creative arts fields.
Vata types out of balance can be full of anxiety and worry, prone to insomnia, constipation, fatigue, and restlessness. Joint and muscle pains or spasms are common as is intolerance to cold.
HOW TO BALANCE A VATA DOSHA:
To pacify a vata dosha maintain a diet of warm/cooked foods with mild spice. Drink warm liquids, and avoid alcohol and caffeine.
Stay warm as much as possible and use warming oils like sesame, almond, or ghee for self massage or Abhyanga. Enhance with warming essential oils like sandalwood, sweet orange, rose and jasmine to soothe the nervous system and the monkey chatter.
Practice a gentle yoga but don't over-exert yourself and maintain a daily routine to stay balanced.
Pitta
Pitta doshas embody the transformative nature of Fire + Water energy.
When in balance pitta individuals are great leaders. They are intellectual, determined and ambitious, organized, effeciant, and detail oriented.
Pitta types out of balance can be agressive and angry, impatient and judgemental. They are prone to fever, heartburn, rashes and other examples of excess heat in the body.
HOW TO BALANCE A PITTA DOSHA:
To pacify a pitta dosha maintain a diet of cool, raw, and mild foods. Avoid spicy food and drinks, stay well hydrated, and eat only when you're hungry.
Use cooling oils like coconut, or sunflower for self massage or Abhyanga. Enhance with cooling essential oils like rose, eucalyptus, bergamot, and chamomile to encourrage relaxation and grounding.
Avoid competitive sports, opting instead for games of recreational fun. Stay out of the direct heat, especially at peak times of the day.
Kapha
Kapha doshas refelct the binding nature of Water + Earth energy.
When in balance kapha individuals are calm, patient, consistent and stable. Loving and serene with excellent memories these gentle souls make excellent care-givers.
Kapha types out of balance can be apathetic, stagnant, and passive and are therefore prone to depression, and excessive eating and sleeping which can lead to weight-gain.
HOW TO BALANCE A KAPHA DOSHA:
To pacify a kapha dosha maintain a diet with plenty of spice to cut through the stagnation and congestion.
Use warming oils like sesame, almond, or ghee for self massage or Abhyanga. Enhance with invigorating essential oils like lemongrass, sweet orange, clove, and peppermint to encourrage circulation stimulate the mind.
Wake early and stick to a daily routine that includes a balance of aerobic and stength exercies, and avoid over-eating.
