Common Mistakes in Electrical Wiring and Steps to Avoid Them

A secure electrical connection at home, or office is necessary to avoid faults and failures in the system as it may pose serious risks, like fire damage, short circuits, electrocution, etc. Whether you are working in the electrical industry or just a homeowner who likes to keep his/her home safe, there are some common mistakes which need to be avoided at all costs.

In some cases, a lot of mistakes are visible only after inspection after many years. Some of them may create small damages, but others can lead to serious injuries.

Electrical Wiring

It is very frequent in light fixtures and receptacles. The exposition of a cable can cause a short circuit if it is kept closed to another wire or metal. Wrapping the wire around the terminal or use tape to conceal it is not a safe solution. Instead, it is advisable to use a pluggable terminal block based on push wire connection technology. Provided with assembling terminal blocks with pole loss, they are easy conductor removal via an operating tool.

Rusty wires

It is not uncommon to find some nicks wires turn rusty during installations. It may occur due to lack of maintenance or carelessness while purchasing them. Such cables can increase overheat, so it is better to fix them up. The solution is to cut the damaged parts and strip the cable before reconnecting it.

Loose cables

They might be present everywhere in your building, ceiling, inside or outside. They can be cut accidentally by either children or workers, or, sometimes the plastic tapes get loosed, making the cables bare. No matter what the reason is, damaged cables may lead to severe injuries if loaded. They should be best fixed up with PCB terminal blocks.

Bury electrical box

Does it really necessary to hide electrical box inside the ceiling or drywall? Of course, not. Still, we don’t know why electricians do it, or people get them done. They should be visible and available for any problems or system failures. Inspection and maintenance will be much easier when electrical and junction boxes are visible. It also helps avoid costly repairs and renovation.

Open junction boxes

No matter how well connected or protected your wires are, you can’t risk of leaving it in an open junction box. It is not safe and shows an unprofessional work. Always get the box covered with a secure metal or plastic plate and fix it well.

While doing electrical work, a small mistake can lead to hazards. So, it is advisable to purchase good appliances, wires, and cables and stay updated on electrical norms and regulations.
