STA Expert Perception Tracker - 4/2026
The STA Expert Perception Tracker is a short, 1-minute survey designed to capture sentiment and qualitative insights on key transport topics.
This edition of the STA Expert Perception Tracker focuses on operations and connectivity in EU transport systems, exploring how the condition and maintenance of infrastructures affect access to reliable transport services, how AI-enabled systems can improve the performance of transport networks, and whether AI-based safety and resilience solutions are ready for wider use.
The survey will remain open until 30 October 2026.
Which country are you currently based in?
1. To what extent do the condition and maintenance of transport infrastructures influence users’ access to reliable transport services?
Strongly - infrastructure condition is essential for accessibility and daily usability.
Moderately - infrastructure matters, but operational factors are equally important.
Slightly - accessibility depends mainly on service planning.
Not significantly - infrastructure condition has limited influence on accessibility.
2. Across Europe, adaptive control systems and multimodal data platforms are expanding (e.g., real-time corridor management, dynamic routing). To what extent do you believe AI-enabled operational systems can improve performance across transport networks?
Consistently - they deliver clear performance gains across transport networks.
In specific contexts - gains depend on the application or operating environment.
Limited or uneven gains - improvements are possible but vary significantly.
No clear impact yet - evidence of performance gains remains limited.
3. Predictive monitoring and automated incident detection (e.g., computer vision alerts, infrastructure diagnostics) are spreading across modes. But scaling depends on reliability. In your view, how ready are AI-based safety and resilience systems for large-scale deployment?
Deployment-ready - reliable enough for large-scale deployment.
Reliable in controlled settings - but further testing is needed before wider deployment.
Require further validation - reliability has not yet been sufficiently demonstrated.
Not yet dependable - significant reliability concerns remain.
Thank you for your feedback!
The findings of every survey will be published in a report to share expert insights and support informed dialogue in the transport sector.
