Which Writing Center Support option is best for My Class?
This is a helpful guide to help determine which of our support options might be the most helpful and suitable for your class's needs.
Is your class in-person or online?
Is your class synchronous or asynchronous?
Are you hoping to have students engage with the Writing Center during scheduled class time or outside of class time?
Are you hoping for a working session where students can get some meaningful work done on their drafts or an instruction session where students are given a detailed overview of a topic?
Is it more important to you that students get feedback from their peers or the Writing Center consultants?
Where will your students be in the process of writing at the time you want to schedule the support?
Peer Review In the Writing Center
This option is a face-to-face workshop where students will be split into groups of 4 or 5 and assigned a Writing Center consultant to facilitate conversations on their written drafts. The goal is to have students read their work aloud and get positive and constructive feedback from their peers and their consultant.

Online Peer Review
This is an asynchronous online option which encourages students to share their work with each other and provide feedback to each other with the facilitation and additional feedback from a Writing Center Consultant. Online Peer Review takes place in the Groups section of Canvas, and does require a bit of technical set up, so please do schedule this option early.

Required Appointments
You are welcome to require your students to make appointments with the Writing Center on their own time, and we are happy to keep track of which students from your course attend and provide them with proof of attendance if necessary. No scheduling is needed for this option; we just ask that you email us and let us know if you would like us to track which students attend.
Brainstorming or Drafting Sessions
We have two workshop options for supporting students in the classroom who are still early in the writing process:
Brainstorming Workshop: This is an in-class workshop where students will be split into groups and assigned a Writing Center Consultant as a facilitator to brainstorm, free-write, and if time allows, outline their major papers. Students need only to have been provided the assignment guidelines to participate in this workshop.
Drafting Workshop: This is an in-class workshop where students are encouraged to actively write their papers while Writing Center Consultants float around the space offering help and feedback on an individual basis. Students should be at a point where they can at least begin writing for this workshop.

Special Topics Instruction Sessions
These are instruction sessions on individual topics. We have many topics pre-prepared, but are also able to develop workshops for requested topics if given enough time and availability to prepare. Our currently available instruction session options are:
APA Workshop: An overview of basic formatting and citation guidelines targeted at beginners.
Personal Statements Workshop: A workshop dedicated to helping students outline and plan for writing personal statements for application essays.
Intro to the Writing Center: This is a short workshop orienting students to Writing Center Services.
Literature Review Workshop: This workshop overviews the standards of writing a Literature Review and the synthesis required to effectively incorporate research into their writing.
