Your child is struggling to understand concepts at school and isn't mastering all the skills he/she will need for the next school year.
When students have weak reading skills, reading at their current grade level is TOO hard, and they shy away from practicing it! Students with math gaps struggle to master new math topics and skills, which progressively build on prior concepts. Every moment that you linger and "wait-and-see," the more new skills that your student will struggle and fall behind.

School seems like a daily struggle for a student with low or erratic grades. Your student lacks confidence and needs a lot of help and encouragement to go to school, do homework, and read or do math. Homework rarely gets done without a lot of intervention.
No quick & easy solutions here, but rather a commitment to prioritize fixing the issues one step at a time. We recommend starting with confidence: go back to the skills in time when the student felt comfortable with what he/she is working on, so that he/she can regain the confidence they had when they excelled. Then, we work steadily on filling skill gaps and going over missed concepts so that the student develops motivation as they see their own progress. Family should work together to prioritize the academic support to turn things around. If structured and executed properly, it is possible to achieve an improvement of 2 - 2.5 grade levels within a 5-8 months time frame. Some of the extracurricular and sports activities might need to be rescheduled or suspended in the meantime, but this is one of the key incentives for students to focus and to perform well in school.
