How many years of work experience do you have?
A. I’m new to the job market and don’t have much work history, only 0-3 years so far.
B. I’m a professional who is well into my career and have 4-10+ years of experience, but I’m ready to seriously level up my career.
C. I’m a director, vice president or other senior leader and it’s time for me to be recognized for the value I provide.
D. I’m at the top of the org chart and my title begins with “Chief” – I’m the visionary leader in charge of running the entire operation.
What’s your biggest insecurity about your work history?
A. I have a few gaps in my employment that stick out like a sore thumb.
B. I don’t think I have enough experience compared to other candidates.
C. I’ve had so many positions over the years that I’m worried I’ll come across as a job hopper.
D. I’m not the best writer and don’t know how to sell myself on paper or brag about my achievements.
Where do you want to be a year from now?
A. I just need to get out of my current company! I’m ready to make a leap ASAP to a company with a better workplace culture – a lateral move to somewhere new is fine by me!
B. I want to change careers completely - I’m even willing to take a lower position if it means moving forward with a job that fits my passions and long-term plans for the future.
C. I just want to boost my salary and make more money to take care of my personal commitments while also gaining more experience in my field.
D. I want to move all the way up the ladder to a C-suite or executive position working for a mission-driven and industry-leading company I can stand behind.
When’s the last time you showed your resume a little TLC?
A. I update my resume all the time.
B. Hmm… I can’t even remember — it’s been so long everything except my name has changed...
C. Not since I got my current job.
What’s your biggest goal when it comes to your resume?
A. To set myself apart from the competition in a meaningful way by highlighting my experience and achievements
B. To show that my experience is not the same, but still related to the jobs I’m applying to
C. To add a little something extra to make recruiters and hiring managers want to hire me
In your opinion, are cover letters still important?
A. Yes!
B. No way and I don’t even have one written!
C. If the employer asks for one then yes, I think they’re important.
When do you want to land your next role?
A. Yesterday! I’m so ready for a change!
B. Within the next 3 months…I’ve got big dreams and I’m ready to start making them happen but with the right amount of planning.
C. Hmmm…I’d say at least another 6 months. I’ve got some awesome projects I’m working on at the moment and they’re going to look AMAZING on my resume once they’re completed!
D. Probably not this year…I’m only pondering leaving my job and honestly, I’m undecided about my next steps.
Do you consider yourself an active networker?
A. I work the room when I’m at a networking event – people remember and recognize me – I maximize my use of LinkedIn to make strategic connections.
B. I don’t really network much and I don’t use my LinkedIn account, even though I do have one.
C. What in the heck is LinkedIn??
How do you apply for most of your jobs?
A. I only use Indeed.com.
B. I only apply when a recruiter or someone else in my network reaches out to me.
C. I use Indeed, LinkedIn, Glassdoor, Monster, CareerBuilder, I ask my network – you name it! I’m leaving no stone unturned!
D. My schedule is so busy! I don't have any time to apply for jobs but know I need to carve out the time.
What is your confidence level when it comes to interviewing?
I've mastered the art of interviewing! I can talk to anyone and brag about my skills openly and with confidence.
I can get through my interviews somewhat okay, but I stumble and get stuck on certain questions.
I DREAD interviews! Do I really have to go??
