Ovarian hypersimulation syndrome can be life threatening. The therapy is based around circulatory support, anticoagulation, empiric antibiotics and controlling electrolye abdomalities. The syndrome is generally self limiting in about 7 days in non pregnant women. OHSS occurs in some form in 30% of assisted reproductive cycles with 1-3% being severe.

Corpus luteum cysts are functional cysts that occur after a follicle releases an egg. The follicle then becomes a secretoiry gland and produces estrogen and progesterone in preparation for pregnancy. If pregnancy does not occur the corpus luteum normally breaks down. Occasionally instead of breaking down it forms a cyst which is usually asymptomatic.
