Hurricane Harvey Relief & Flood Insurance
Congress is scheduled to vote on the first relief package for Hurricane Harvey Wednesday. They also have to extend the National Flood Insurance program, which aids millions of Americans, before it expires on September 30th.
The Debt Ceiling
Congress must raise the debt ceiling before the end of September to prevent the U.S. from defaulting on its debts, but what the heck is the debt ceiling anyway? Find out here.
The Budget
The fiscal year ends September 30th and Congress has yet to approve a budget for 2018. They're likely to kick the can a little further down the road by passing a continuing resolution to cover spending for just a few months.
FAA Reauthorization & Reform
Speaking of things that are expiring, Congress has to reauthorize the Federal Aviation Administration before the end of September, and they're thinking about putting the air traffic control system in the hands of an independent non-profit. What do you think of that?
Children's Health Insurance Program
The Children's Health Insurance Program, which provides health insurance to 8 million low to middle income kids who can't afford private insurance, is expiring by the end of September and it may become the victim of political wrangling if Congress doesn't hear from supporters.
