The Best Memes of All Time

Discover the best memes of this year and of all time in the ultimate meme list

The concept of memes has been around since the late 1970s, after Richard Dawkins, an English scholar came up with the term, in his book, The Selfish Gene, published in 1976. However, their popularity began to soar only in the last decade or so, primarily because of the widespread use of the internet. Now, good memes don’t just serve the purpose of entertainment, many rely on new memes as marketing tools and even sources of news.

No matter whether you’re looking for the best memes of all time, the most popular memes right now, or current memes that are just plain funny, you have come to the right place. On this page, you will get to see the best memes across different categories and from different time periods.

The Best New Memes / Memes of 2018

1. No bears here.
“No matter how remote your location is, you'll always be able to find some trace of human society.” - Bear Grylls, or probably not. Who’re we to judge, though? After all, does the man deserve to eat no more than insects and leaves? However, how is the public at large now to believe anything that Bear has to say on TV? Ever wonder who’s filming the guy when he’s out there “all alone”? This is definitely among the most popular 2018 memes.

2. We're not going home.
Next in line of the latest memes that strike a chord refers to Russia’s performance in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which was impressive, to say the least. This new meme, though, serves as icing on the cake. Why? Well, the road back home as a losing side is anything but pleasant, with no waving flags at the airport, and maybe even some hostility, upon your return. Even if the Russian team had to go back home, they would have returned as heroes.  This round goes to Putin.

3. I want to travel the world.
Life is full of irony, no doubt, and this new meme serves as a great and funny example. Here, Lisa is hopeful of travelling the world, only to be brought back to reality when she looks into her purse. Maybe she ought to consider getting Mr. Burns to sponsor her trip. If she succeeds, Homer and Bart would sure love to tag along, as would half the world. Get on it someone, and use that to create the next meme of the year.

4.
Silence in the loo.
Not everyone is comfortable using a public restroom. A little trickle, a plop here and there, and some flatulence make matters even worse. It comes as no surprise that people even bend under doors to check if booths are occupied, and then decide how quiet or noisy the can be. If you so much as squeak a door while entering, expect there to be sudden pin drop silence. It’s not like you wouldn’t do the same. This may well have been the meme of the day when it was first made public.

5.
Who picked these names for hurricanes?
While it’s no laughing matter, there is no dearth of people who thought of “The Jeffersons” when they first heard of hurricane Florence. If you’re wondering how hurricanes are named, know that people who discover them don’t name them after their loved ones. Instead, the World Meteorological Organization follows a strict protocol where a predetermined list of male and female names is used in rotation for Atlantic storms. Hurricanes that cause extensive damage become exceptions to the list. Some current memes, such as this, are best left without wisecracks.

6.
Trump at the 9/11 memorial service.
There is no dearth of 2018 memes that wonder if Trump has a brain. Well, one can only continue to speculate. Trump has, without doubt, come up with more than enough attention grabbing moments, but this one quite literally takes the cake. Why else would someone pump fists in the air to “celebrate” the apparent 9/11 memorial service. Is it the Russian or North Korean effect, or is Trump considering defecting to his allies in the Arab world. Melania, in the background, is with her head down, probably in shame. Dump him girl!

7.
Nike already has your money.
The newest memes taking on Nike continue to grow in numbers, although this one seems like an apt retort. After all, how many people who’ve created or laughed at a Nike meme have not sported a product of the brand? If anything, Nike’s probably having the last laugh, what with all the free publicity. Trevor Noah’s obviously got this one right.

8. Dressing all the way up/down for that party.
Sure, most of us have gone through days when coming by money to enter a party was anything but easy. One would have to hope that the bouncer manning the entry of this place had less than perfect vision, because the biceps, facial hair, and gait are rather plain to see. Maybe it would’ve been easier just scouting for the five bucks per head. But then, people looking for recent memes would have missed this masterpiece. Wonder how that night went?

Current Memes That Will Have You in Splits

1. Need money for college, need job for money.
Life is a vicious cycle, alright. Just after you think you’ve got it all figured out, you realize you’re back at square one. Tom Hanks is rather right in wondering what the big plan is. If any of you find out, please take time to share life’s big secret with the others. Until then, slave to the grind, while to continue to enjoy the top trending memes.

2.
Jobs is gone, long gone.
If ignorance is bliss, it still won’t Steve Jobs back to life. That does not mean that Apple with not be releasing any new products. The 10 X that was launched after Jobs departed already has a successor.  Wonder if “maybe she snapped” has actually “definitely snapped”. That would explain a lot. Rest in peace Jobs. Start reading “when she snapped”. You, move to the other good memes that are to follow.

3.
Forget making America great, concentrate on golf.
Donald Trump has been in office for a fairly long time, and there’s little to no sign of America becoming great again. Not that we think it ever lost its sheen. However, given that Trump is doing next to nothing to further the interest of this country, except firing seemingly good folk, it might serve him well to focus on golf. With Tiger Woods not quite making a comeback, maybe Trump will turn the fortunes for American golfing. All set to tee off then? Please do, as that might inspire someone to come up with a great meme of the day, or even the year, perhaps.

4.
I was about to share the same thing.
This has, without doubt, happened to just about everyone who is active on social media. You think you’ve come across a hilarious, sad, entertaining, or informative new meme, and you wish to share it with a particular person. Before you can even get to it, the person in question sends you the same meme. Feel stumped? You’re not alone.

5.
Spare me the politics.
Not all of us are politically inclined, and not too many people realize that. Getting bombarded with one political meme after the other can have a less than a pleasing effect in several instances. This latest meme serves as a good example of how much most people want to keep up with the newest memes surrounding politics. If Trump is impeached, we’ll all know in any case.

Best Political Memes of All Time

1. Let’s get back to the wall talk (2016).
It was only a matter of time before someone made the connection between Donald Trump’s desire to build a wall along the Mexican border and the Great Wall of China. Going by the expression on his face, it sure looks like he believes that the wall helped in keeping Mexicans out of China. He could, maybe, even consider outsourcing the job to the Chinese, given that they have just the required experience. We’ll have several more famous memes then.

2.
I Am Not a Witch (2010).
Christine O'Donnell’s effort to reach out to her constituents ended up travelling much further. In her promotional video, she starts by saying, “I am not a witch,” which is probably is line with what a witch might actually say. The good meme take a dig video she obviously put a lot of effort into. What happened to the results of the election? Well, the good folk at Delaware probably figured out what they’d be up against, thanks to her seemingly honest approach, so this Republican lost.

3.
Let’s Call Her Monica (2012).
Little did the world known back in the day what transpired in the Clinton household after the Monica Lewinsky incident came to light. Bill, without a doubt, would’ve been delighted if Hilary had reacted in a similar vein. The actual image is that of the ex-president, his wife, and their dog, Buddy. Not long after this meme surfaced, “let’s name her Monica” started doing the rounds as well. This, without a doubt was among the best memes of the time. Buddy, unfortunately, was hit by a car and passed away a year after the end of Clinton’s presidency.

4.
Rahul Gandhi’s ‘jaadu ki jhappi’ (2018).
Narendra Modi, India’s Prime Minister, is famous for hugging just about every world leader he meets, as has been illustrated in several recent memes. He was taken by surprise when the opposition’s chief, Rahul Gandhi, walked up to him and hugged him right during a parliament session. While Rahul did not quite conquer, he certainly inspired many a memes. Oh, and “jaadu ki jhappi” translates to “magical hug”, and the phrase comes from a popular Hindi movie, Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.

5. Message for Kim.
Although North Korea seems to have mellowed down in rennet times, there is no telling when Kin might want to nuke the United States again. The bonhomie that he and Trump appear to share might just work well for world peace. Not the one to take chances, though, it looks like some like to have their bases covered. However, it’s a shame that we don’t mind putting our neighbors in the line of fire. Here’s wishing them all apologies and nirvana. Oh, and more new memes trying to shift focus may well be on their way.

6.
Studies show the political right is far better at creating and spreading memes.
In this day and age, this appears to be a fairly uniform pattern globally, where the far right goes about spreading its propaganda with little need to corroborate through facts. If anything, there’s always the “fake news” retort. Try indulging in meaningful conversation, or asking for a “citation”, and you’ll have no choice but to shift on to another tangent altogether. Incidentally, there is no dearth of current memes that highlight this dilemma.

7.
We’ve picked our teams, now what?
As long as Trump and Kim have any kind of relationship, cordial, hostile, or very much in admiration of each other, there will be popular memes surrounding their bond.  Pretty much all that’s lacking in this picture is their holding hands, although what followed after this picture was taken is near impossible to guess. Nah, they wouldn’t have held hands. Captains of opposite teams don’t do that.

8.
Oh, Ted, what have you done?
This one’s more of a Ted Cruz meme than a Trump one. Oh, what the hell? Both deserve equal credit for this, one of the best memes out there currently. From a time when Ted had little good to say about Trump and Trump referred to him as, “Cruz ‘Lyin’ Ted", their relationship has surely come a long way. Last in was that Trump is on his way to campaign for Ted in October 2018. This simply goes to show that politics does make for stage bed fellows and no political rivalry is permanent.

By the way, have you realized how many of the recent memes you come across refer to Trump in some form or the other? Given the sheer number of popular memes about Trump, one of his may well be the contender for the meme of the year.

9.
Why holds guns when you can hold hands?
With hostility, war, and fights erupting in different parts of the world, the last thing we need is more bombs, gun, and bloodshed. Do you know that defense expenses account for the largest expenditure of the world? The second tongue-in-cheek message is fairly apt too. Let’s not enter people’s personal lives and brandish them for their sexuality. Governments the world over, get someone to keep looking at the latest trending memes to see what your people really want.

10.
I’ll seek support elsewhere.
Given the amount of support Trump has been able to garner since he became president, what with members leaving his team or getting fired, his seeking allies across borders should come as no surprise. Seldom has Trump spoken ill of Putin, and his newfound bonhomie with Kim has rightfully surprised many. Maybe, at the end of it all, he will eventually denuclearize the world along with these two leaders. California dreaming on a winter’s day, did someone say? Well, this isn’t in the list of top memes about politics for no reason.

The Most Popular Memes About Sports

1. New ad campaign for old white people’s shoes.
Sure, this is not an official New Balance advertisement. However, this latest meme does raise a fairly valid point about old white men such as Mr. Trump himself. After all, “Grab ’em by the pussy. You can do anything.” is what he infamously said. When these shoes are actually out, maybe he would end up getting a free pair. Until then, the good old white folk have plenty to wear, no doubt.

2. What he posts on Instagram Vs. Reality.
Sportspersons are as human as everyone else, and vanity in some comes as no surprise. Quite like most people don’t look as good as the online profile photos, looking at sports-related photos online might just leave important elements out of the frame. Like here, for instance, when the slam dunk is so seemingly close, yet so far. Better luck next time, eh? Just watch out for someone trying to make an all new meme.

3.
The only guy better than Federer on grass is Bob Marley.
This post by Shane Warne soon after Roger Federer won the 2017 Wimbledon had both legends’ fans in splits, and may well have been the meme of the year. Bob Marley, in all probability, was the most influential musician to have played on grass, so what if he preferred smoking it? Federer, on the other hand, probably never smoked anything in his life. Wonder what Shane Warne was on when he came up with this?

4.
From a night to remember to one to forget.
The Croatian football team exceeded most people’s expectations by making it to the finals of the 2018 FIFA world Cup in Russia. Less than two months later, they faced their biggest defeat in history, losing 0-6 to Spain in the Nations League. While this was great news for Spain who failed to make it to the World Cup quarter-finals, those in Croatia were none too pleased. Several new memes followed.

5.
Who else wants to go to Lebron’s school?
It would be quite an understatement to say that Lebron is passionate about the way he plays basketball. Translate the same passion into the school he’s recently helped open, and this new meme is not far from the mark. The “I Promise School” is a non-charter public school meant especially for at-risk kids in Akron, Ohio. The LeBron James Family Foundation has partnered with Akron Public Schools for this great initiative.

6. T
he golfers weather forecasting stone.
Weather forecasting cannot have been made simpler, for a golfer or for anyone else, as this, one of the best memes about sports indicates. It works rather easily. A dry stone indicates no rain, a wet stone suggests it’s raining, and if you can’t see the stone, it must be foggy. The chain is used to good effect too – it dangles when the weather is windy and shakes violently during an earthquake. So, when are you getting your own weather forecasting stone?

7.
Award for the most random basketball stats. We know it’s the day and age of technology and statistics are easy to come by – all you often need is a single click of the button. However, must we be overloaded with stats that we might never use or have absolutely no interest in? Well done, SportsCenter, for giving us information we’re better off without. In case any of you are wondering what a fadeaway is, it’s when a jump shot is taken jumping backwards. Hmm, now we get it.

8. Will practice ever be fun? While this relatively new meme comes from the world of swimming, it may well ring true for athletes and players of different sports. After all, how many would enjoy a 20 mile run, swimming 30 miles, or a 40 mile ride on a bike? Racing until there’s only one contender left, sure, that sounds like fun! Some might say that practicing how to stay in bed for 24 hours is their idea or fun exercise.

Can strenuous practice ever be fun? Sure, if you’re a professional who is vying for a medal or a cup. Even then, though, expect lots of guts and maybe no glory. The flipside is that without practice, you will not get anywhere close to perfection. So, if you want to make anything of your efforts, practice away.

9. He came, he conquered, he left disgraced. Armstrong’s fall from grace inspired several popular memes. When his doping story first surfaced, fans were aghast that this seven-time Tour de France winner was involved at all. Not long after, he was stripped of all seven titles. One might wonder how many people close to him stood by him during troubled times. This is one of the popular memes that depicted how some others might have felt about him.

The text comes from the song, “Somebody That I Used to Know”, by Gotye, an Australian-Belgian multi-instrumentalist. It’s a shame that good meme has used the team’s principal, Johan Bruyneel, to depict the sordid truth. In his defense, Bruyneel got a 10-year bank for his part in the entire matter.

The Really Good Memes From Across Time

1. Keep that shit up, Leonardo says, Shane agrees.
Former Australian cricketer Shane Warne has delighted with fans with some of the best memes on Instagram and this one had most in splits. This post offers us some insight into the legendary spinner’s mind, showing how he hardly minds posts that might seem offensive, rude, or even obnoxious to some. Besides, with Leonardo doing the talking, the whole thing appears to make even more sense.

2.
Adding another shade of gray to the mix.
When a woman asks a man what the lady in the picture did, the result is usually along a whole different line. This gentleman, here, though, is an obvious gaming aficionado, one who probably does not know where to draw the line. If you end up pulling a stunt like this, no matter how funny it might seem at the time, expect never to see her again. Oh, and quite like the game the guy in the picture is playing, expect all hell to break lose before she fades into the distance. Then, go through the latest memes to make yourself feel better.

3. I’m king, until there’s need for the exterminator.
Every once in a while, the gangsta in us wishes to surface. The humble cockroach, in all likelihood, was created to put the gangsta in place. The loud and shrill responses that this little insect evokes can make for an entire library of popular memes. While some of us are simply scared of cockroaches, some even suffer from katsaridaphobia. That, in simple terms, refers to cockroach phobia, and if you don’t have it, you have every reason to be glad.

4. I just ate but I can still be hungry.
There is no dearth of people who will nod their heads in complete agreement with this rather good meme. Hunger works in strange ways, and wanting to eat after having eaten not that long ago is not as strange as it may sound to some. Pointing out to them that they’ve eaten recently is not the best idea, unless you want to be at the receiving end of some less than pleasant looks and words. If you want to be helpful, make your fiend a sandwich.

The Most Popular Memes About the UK

1. Have chilli, will come.
Britain’s fondness for all things chilli is not new. It dates back to around the 18th century, with the influence of Indian food. Now, the UK loves its chillies in different shapes and sizes, with different levels of potency, right from the super hot bhut jolokia and down to the rather mellow paprika. The next time you want to invite anyone British over for food, just make sure you have chilli on the table.

2.
Math or maths.
The age old question receives an answer by a seemingly rather prim and proper well-heeled British dog. Only, he is not God and his word is not the gospel. While dogs in the United States and Canada prefer attending “math” classes, their counterparts in Australia and New Zealand opt for “maths”. While both versions are correct, “mathematics” sounding plural only complicates matters. Next, we’ll have dogs from South America going “meth”. That can make for an interesting new meme.

3.
How was your weekend?
An English person cannot resist the urge to ask you how your weekend was. That, to them, is the right thing to do. Are they looking for details about your drinking binge or late night shenanigans? Certainly not! The next time someone British asks you how you are or how your day was, you know what to say. Talk about the weather instead, and you’ll be the one left wondering. Why? Well, simply look for popular memes about the British and their weather.

4.
United Kingdom, England, or Great Britain?
It must obviously be hard, trying to determine just what your country is called. Let’s clear the air, then. Great Britain refers to the island that includes England, Scotland, and Wales. It is not a country. The United Kingdom, officially called the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, is a sovereign state that comprises of four countries – England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. While England is referred to as a country, it is not a sovereign state. Oh, then there’s the British Isles too, which is home to more than 6,000 islands. Current memes depicting this dilemma are usually easy to find.

5.
The Most British Photo. Just about everyone visiting the UK likes going the tourist way, capturing a few quintessential photographs. Nothing says England quite like the famed black cab with Big Ben and a red double-decker bus in the background. However, this good meme could have been better still with one of the Queen’s guard added to the mix. Oh, and did you notice that this one photo successfully represents the UK, Great Britain, and England?

6.
Paint Great Britain With Tea.
Britain’s love affair with tea is more than 350 years old, and according to several English people, there’s nothing that a good cup cannot fix.  Taking the love for tea and the region to a whole new level is this meme, nicely incorporating the use of one to create the other. Would anyone like some tea to go with this now ending list of best memes?

There will, no doubt, be several new memes in coming times that will vie to be in the list of the best memes of all time. Fortunately, good memes are never too hard to come by, all thanks to people who work hard to keep the wheels rolling. If you ever have a dull moment around you, simply look for the most popular memes that are doing rounds and, rest assured, you’ll stay amused.
