News stories about employees sleeping on the job and committing fraud highlight a lack of oversight and accountability.
The mishandling of voter registrations and disability placards underscore a culture of failure at the DMV.
But there are solutions.
Reducing dependence on the DMV for services, contracting out management of branches, and looking to the private sector for technological assistance would be a good place to start in addressing these issues.
