Vata is the energy of movement and communication. It governs all bodily motion—breathing, circulation, nerve impulses, and elimination. People with a predominant Vata constitution tend to have light, slender frames, dry or rough skin, cold hands and feet, and quick minds. They are creative, enthusiastic, and lively, but when out of balance, they may experience anxiety, insomnia, dryness, and digestive irregularity. Vata types thrive with warmth, grounding routines, and nourishing, moist foods.
Pitta represents the energy of transformation—digestion, metabolism, and intellect. Those with dominant Pitta constitutions are often medium-built, with warm skin, sharp features, and a strong appetite. They are intelligent, focused, ambitious, and natural leaders. However, when aggravated, they can become irritable, impatient, or prone to inflammation and skin issues. To stay balanced, Pittas need cooling environments, calming practices, and foods that are light and refreshing.
Kapha is the energy of stability, structure, and lubrication. It governs physical form, emotional calm, and immunity. Kapha types typically have broad, sturdy bodies, soft skin, and thick hair. They are naturally calm, compassionate, and loyal, but may struggle with sluggishness, weight gain, or congestion when imbalanced. Kapha thrives on stimulation, variety, light exercise, and foods that are warm, dry, and light in nature.
